History of Village High School
The mission of
Village High School, a collaborative community of learners, is to
provide diverse and interactive opportunities through a safe, personalized, and
innovative environment where all students develop their skills, confidence, and
knowledge to pursue their passions in an ever changing world.
Current Program (2015 - present)
Beginning in the 2015-16 school year, Village High School (VHS), formerly known as Academy Online, evolved to provide students with unique blended, hybrid, and online educational options.
There are currently two programs under the umbrella of Village High School: The Village and Access.
We made changes to our original model in response to the needs of our students and to the dynamic technologies and tools that help support best educational practices. With a foundation built on research for effective learning and guided by instruction from the best and most passionate D20 educators, The Village is poised to open the doors to new ways of thinking...not only about what education should be, but also what education could be.

2008 - 2015
Academy Online High School was founded in 2008-2009 to serve students in Academy District 20. In 2009-2010, AOHS was certified by the Colorado Department of Education as a Multi-District Online Program. With this certification, AOHS has been able to accept students from all over the state of Colorado during registration windows and within D20 Choice student guidelines. Our first graduating class was the class of 2010.
For several years, we did not purchase curriculum from outside vendors, but instead allowed our outstanding, highly-qualified teaching staff to develop curriculum to meet individual student needs. Our curriculum was built aligning with Colorado Academic Standards, and our standards-based reporting system provided specific feedback on student progress towards meeting these standards.
Currently, our curriculum includes courses built from our vender, Accelerate Education, elective courses, and courses that are built by our outstanding D20 staff. We have a variety of courses that are delivered online, in -person, or hybrid. All courses adhere to district, state and national standards.
VHS never deviated from its vision to provide small class sizes (fewer than 30 students per course) and provide students with individualized attention and feedback on their progress. This personalized approach has benefited students and has contributed to significant student-teacher interaction. Teachers use multiple forms of communication to connect with students including e-mail, texts, phone calls, and/or face-to-face meetings.
