Sample Student Schedule

Each student will have a personalized schedule to best meet his or her needs. Below is an example of what a student schedule may look like. The schedule is intended to be modular in nature to allow student flexibility. Our actual school hours will likely be 8:30am - 3:30pm, with the option for students to arrive early and leave early if they utilize district transportation. The blocks are shaded to reflect required time on campus (yellow) vs. opportunities for flexible learning from home as students demonstrate the responsibility necessary to be successful in an independent environment (green).

Leadership Development

Small collaborative group discussions, leadership coursework, outside speakers, etc. This time would be scheduled as an entire school to facilitate large group events.

Reading

Students will have time to read for pleasure. This time will serve to improve literacy skills, model perseverance, and develop a life-long love of reading. Successful reading skills will help prepare students for college and career success.

Personal Learning

Students will learn academic content at their own pace. They will work through online curriculum that is developed to their strengths and deficiencies. Students will take pre-assessments which will identify areas of mastery while prescribing activities for areas where further knowledge/skills are needed to reach mastery. As students demonstrate the ability to be successful working independently, they may be afforded the opportunity to work from home during personal learning time.

Projects

Students will engage in collaborative problem solving projects. These will be problems that students will look to solve as they research, innovate, and create solutions.

Inquiry Time

Students will have the opportunity to explore areas of interest or potential passions. These opportunities could include working on a personal research project, conducting interviews, or other activities. As they progress to upperclassmen, they would use this time to work on a capstone project.

Wellness

Students will have time to complete a work out as part of their school day. We will have flexibility for them to conduct this during the morning, afternoon, or even potentially at lunch.

Expeditions/Internships/PLT at Home

Fridays will be flexible time when we will do a variety of activities. These include expeditions (ski trip, hiking, museum visits, etc.) where we take advantage of living in Colorado, internships for upper classmen working alongside industry professionals, or opportunities for students to work from home while we focus on students with more intense needs in-building.
